Frequently Asked Questions
What is this documentary about?
This is a documentary exploring relationships between the Africans in the America and the African Americans in the United States. Africans have some 'notions' about African Americans and African Americans have 'notions' about Africans which are not necessarily accurate.
The first goal of this documentary is to reveal those notions then test their validity. Ultimately we hope that the documentary will result in some understanding between the two groups.
Is it a politically charged?
The intention is not political and since this is a documentary we have no way of knowing in advance what the participant's views will be. It is entirely possible that some participants would look at the topic from a political point of view. Our goal is provide and document those views.
How can one participate?
If you need to be considered contact the producers of the documentary at info@kibirafilms.com. State your interest and how you may contribute to the project. No prior acting experience required.
When would the release date be?
Sometime in 2009's first or second quarter.
If I am neither an African nor an African American can I participate in the project?
Of course! What we are looking for are opinions and we don’t care who gives them. The documentary has sections which will examine the phenomenon from different point of views and in seeking that we cannot limit ourselves to just African Americans. For example we need to talk to the Rochester MN police chief on the conflicts of Somalis with African Americans living in that city – and the city police chief is not an African or African American.
Why did Kibira Films choose to make this documentary?
This has been Josiah’s topic of interest for a while. It is also something that the company wants to try since up to now it has just been producing feature films. This is a different genre and the company wants to try it.
What if I am located outside Minneapolis?
Being out of Minneapolis does not matter. We will come to you if we feel that you have a compelling or unique point to make. Of course if your opinion has been captured by someone here in Minneapolis, we will not travel just to repeat the same point from a different participant. Already, we have participants lined up in Chicago and Washington DC. Also your account can be captured via phone.
Where did Kibira Films get the funding for the project?
The company is soliciting funds as the project gets underway. As in the past, Kibira Films will concentrate on completing the project by coming up with creative ways to meet pre and post production expenses.
What is the intended outcome from the documentary?
This is an investigative documentary. We have no pre-conceived notions for the outcome. We expect that the participants will help us determine the outcomes. The outline for the project includes a set of topics and guidelines from which we will use to solicit information from each participant. It is therefore each participant’s prerogative to say whatever they want. |
